• Temperatures are rising, pickup pads are being put on and it must be that time of year. It’s a great feeling to be walking around in your ski gear and seeing other fellow whistlerites on their bikes going for a pedal. Read the rest of this entry »

As the years progress through ski and snowboard development many new technologies come up. In the last couple years rockered Skis and Boards have been flooding the market, needless to say its a trend that will probably stick around. As with most new technologies it takes a few years to get the kinks worked out, a few years have passed and there is definitely a trend building. But as usual each company has its own name and type of rocker, as you can imagine there are a few different types of rocker out there. As we carry K2, Burton and Ride snowboards, below is a quick explanation of their different forms of rocker. With K2 the same rocker applies to Skis but underfoot with all the skis there is a little bit of camber.

A common question I have been hearing around town is “where is the summer?” and I feel the same way. It is getting close to Crankworx and I think I have worn a jacket more in the past month than I did all winter. Well thats a bit of an exaggeration, but it has been unseasonably cold this past month. None the less, its great to see everyone out on their bikes enjoying the not so summerish weather.

Needless to say even with an injured heel, there isn’t much chance of myself not making it up the bike park.  Luckily the injury is only noticeable once I am off my bike and walking around, and that is always a bonus. Though most of the park is still buried in snow, trail crews have been doing an awesome job at clearing out as many trails as they can. The appeal for the park for most people is the fact that in one day you can hammer out a great deal of laps, without much effort of climbing. Too be honest who wants to push a 44 pound mountain bike up a hill when you have a nice padded chair lift right there. That being said I have been doing some XC riding in the valley and the trails from what I have seen and what I have heard are starting to shape up nicely. Opening weekend had less people than I was expecting and the weather was much better than anyone would have guessed.  I guess a couple nice days and everyone is ready for summer,  but who really knows with the forecasting in whistler. It seems that every day the 14 day trend changes quite dramatically, and all we can do is hope that summer is here to stay.

Here is a little clip from the BMX world that I thought was pretty incredible. Generally BMXers are leading the way with new ground breaking bike tricks. if this video is any direction as to were things are headed. Looks like this July Crankworx is going to be one big party!..

This post is for anyone out there who has felt like they are too old or have passed their prime and Mountain Biking is no longer for them. Maybe your family is going on a vacation to Whistler and you are looking for some activities to do with the entire family. If you think that Downhill Mountain Biking is not going to be something that the entire family can do, you need to think again. Here is an inspirational story of one man living life. You are never too old until you convince yourself otherwise. Mountain biking on Whistler Mountain can be that experience which makes you stop and realize that life is worth living.

Weather Forecast – Should we complain, should we be worried, should we be happy and more importantly should we plan our next downhill biking excursion to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park?

According to the 14 day weather trend, next week might be that incredible over the top week for downhill biking you have been waiting for all your life. Dust off your helmet cams. Spit, polish and oil up the bike because this coming week you are going to want to make a road trip to the Whistler Bike Park. Better yet, forget the hours of toil and scratches on your car getting your bike to Whistler, and try out some of the high end rentals at Summit Sport. (Just had to put in that plug) Anyways it is going to be a good one. Book your room at the Crystal Lodge & Suites for Tuesday night to take advantage of those mid-week rates and be prepared to be amazed.

The historical temperatures for this time of year reside at 10.5 degrees Celsius. This coming week we will see an average temperature of about 19 degrees Celsius. That means warm and sunny but not hot and draining. We have also seen a regular drizzle of rain over the past week. Not enough to keep us off the mountain but enough to moisten up the soil to keep the dust out of the air and to maintain good traction on the runs.

Summer is here so make this year one to remember. Whistler Mountain Bike Park is waiting for you.

I am going to attempt to keep the majority of the videos that I post to this blog current so that everyone can see what the park looks like now. I found this little clip on the North Shore Mountain Bike site. Nice clip Danny and I hope that you might be able to provide us with some more posts throughout the year. Love the soundtrack too, where did you get the music? A cool little swing remix. What camera are you using as well? Your camera has some good visual stabilization to it. Also if anyone else wants to comment on cameras that they have used and examples of their stabilization capabilities, that would be great as well.

This video is not ment for the locals or hard core Freeride community, but if you are just a little curious about what Whistler Mountain has to offer this is a must see little video. It is a tourism BC video guide that gives you a little taster of what the bike park has to offer those of you who have yet to give it a try.
